Inspecting and reporting on the condition of homes is the perfect job. I just love getting out doing my site work. People to meet, people excited about their new home. I always welcome home buyers to attend their Master Home Inspection and answer any questions about their new home. Most times the site work is completed in 3 hours or so. Report writing is a lonely task, hundreds of pictures to review, checking “widely accepted standards”, grinding out narratives, annotating and inserting pictures, and being sure the home buyer gets the information within 24 hours it takes nearly the same or little more time to create and send the report as the site work does. It’s not hard to understand why two inspections a day is the limit.
I haven’t always been a home inspector. Many years of developing and managing quality systems while providing complex tooling helps me bring the engineer's eye to home inspecting. I’ve found the folks at Whirlpool, Motorola, Cummins Engine, and Rubbermaid very challenging and customer satisfaction is a requirement that I fully understand. Besides the "I’ve done room additions, home improvement, and built a home" rhetoric found on most every homeinspection site. I have worked with local home builders on quality issues and laid ground work for continuous improvement plans that reduce build time, provide a quality product, and control costs.
